May first

Good morning from Jr. We are parked at St. Marks Church waiting for Mass to start and
giving me time to catch up. Our camp last night was beautiful with a lake right outside our door and a nice hammock but lousy wi fi service. so here goes yesterday. I decided to head north on 80. Lots of wind and the hills were still green. We stopped in Imlay to see Thunder Mountain monument. no mountain there!

WW two vet from Oklahoma, Frank Von Zant was badly burned in a tank battle. He was a self identified Creek Indian and took the native name of Rolling Thunder Mountain. He made a spiritual haven for hippies. Five acres of found objects such as car hoods, doll heads, typewriters, and gas pumps. Tese objects were all used in his buildings and walls. One three story building has a largeframework handle so the great spirit can take the building away after Thunder's death. Lots of walls made with bottles and car windshields. In 1983 Von Zant was named Nevada's artist of the year and that same year the site was partially destroyed by arson. Thunder commited suicide in 1989.
In 1992 the place was declared a Nevada State Historic Site. (I guess there aren't a lot of things to declare in Nevada). Amazing stuff a person can build with junk. The site is being restored and is partially open for self guided tours. Don and Tom should think about a State Historic Site in Alamo!

As we entered Oregon, the winds got worse. Luckily not much traffic. No trees anywhere except e
where some weird person built a house. I wanted to turn off to see the Pillars of Rome, but Donna refused to let Cmor drive 3 miles on a gravel road. Into Idaho and our home for the night. Tomorrow I am going to take Cmor to have his locks checked. At night after I go to bed, I think someone is sneaking in and eating our cookies, because they are disappearing, unlike Donna's bottom. Time to go into Church. Hugs from Jr.
