Hello again faithful followers. As Dorothy said, "there's no place like home." Our last few days were very stressful. I think all of us have seen enough desert for awhile. Experiencing a heat wave is not a lot of fun. We woke early to get a start across the desert. It was 5:09 when we left camp. 94*. We crossed the border and were happy to see the California sign. Did a lot that day. Daggett with some wonderful old buildings. Top floor gone from the old hotel where death valley Scotty lived. Visited BRstowand saw the Barstow Dept /Hotel. Home of the Harvey Girls. , Saw a bunch of scrap metal enhanced cars used in Mad Max movies. Great statue of a little leaguer.
I got to sit at the head of a long row of baseballs. We went to the site of the first Mc Donalds restaurant. Very interesting st ory. It is now a museum. Found another wigwam motel. Cucamonga had the cleanest old station. Almost too clean. The fire was very close. We have now seen several fires on this trip. Not fun. I can't imagine those poor firemen in this heat.
We passed a great building shaped like a shoe complete withx rope laces. And then, finally in the distance, the Santa Monica Pier Arch. We had made it. Lots of cheering in Cmor.
We spent that night in Castaic.
Still very hot. Lot s of cold showers the last few nights. Tried to sleep late but no luck. We decided to go home on 99. Weweretrying to stall and not get the bearded one home too early. For those who did 'tknow, The stay at homes were working on the 57 Chevy to surprise Don. Itwas very hard not letting him know. Lots of phone calls while he was in showering or talking to other people. I is very hard work trying to be sneaky. Going up 99 was interesting. Wefound a State park founded by and for African Americans. Met the ranger and he gave me some green peppers from their garden. They grow the samefoods the original settlers grew. We went to the Kingsburg jail. Didn't hang arounf there too long. On to the world's largest box of raisens. Our last vacation stop was a building shaped like a bulldozer. Still too early to go home, so we sat in Danville on the side of the road playing cards until Deb said we could go home, Don thought we were waiting because Chris had been working on his truck and wanted to surprise Papa with how much he had done. When we pulled up the driveway was full of family anf friends. They had all worked on Don's car. He is a very loved man. We are truly blessed with all this love and friendship. Traveling is grat fun but so is coming home, especially to such a warm welcome. We are off again this weekend to Shingle springs. Then wewill be home for the rest of the month . Another trip planned for August. Cmor sure loves to go, and I love to keep him company. Thank you all again for the good thoughts and prayers and for the patience in following our adventures. We love you all. Until next time, hugs from Junior and Cmor

end of the trail
Good morning to all of our faithful followers. Just a really quick blog to tell you we did it. We landed at the Santa Monica Pier on Monday Afternoon. Would we do it again? Only on a bike. Trying to stay true to The old road meant too many long stretches with nothing to see. But the people we met, the wonderful sights and the history making places we witnessed made it very worthwhile. If you ever plan to follow in our footprints, I mean tire prints, do it soon. A lot of it is rapidly disappearing. We have one more day of adventures and will be home this evening. We thank God for our safe journey. Ending blog tomorrow. hugs from Junior

Monday Morning.
Trying to catch up. We are leaving camp. 5:09a:m. 94*. Yesterday morning at Church the Priest said, "If you think this is hotter than hell, you're wrong". This is even hotter. Kingman Arizona. I am going to try to be a better monkey if Hell is worse than this.. This makes me think of my friend Goldie. He spent a summer after high school, working for a paver. That was all it took for him to decide to go to college. Amazing how an example works. We keep meeting lots of European bike riders doing the 66 on a tour. I have been volunteering to take pictures. I found some ideas for what to do with extra car parts. Make furniture. Going tO make Route 57 Sign for our house. Maybe a burma shave sign. There was a zip line ride in Williams with a 57 Chevy above it. Too hot to do. We watched a worker lower his wheels on a high rail truck. It made us think of Rudi, rolling on down the track. Awful ride thru the mountains to Oatman. Very hot but beautiful scenery. Cmor did a good job, while I got to lok around. Not many people in town this time but the burros were friendlier. They were up on the boardwalks in the shade, trying to get in the buildings. I already told you the temps from yesterday. We watched the game on big screen in camp. Shared the couch with the brother of Steph Curry's college friend. They were on their honeymoon from San Francisco. We were not happy with the results, but can now switch our attention to the Giants. Remember, there is always next year. Okay, I am caught up and David, Cmor's GPS said drive for 158 miles so on we go. Enjoy your day. Hugs from Junior, back in California
