Wow, the thimgs this monkey takes for granted at home. I won't complain about tolls on our bridges. I am going to have to cut back on my bananas if we go on many more toll roads around here. Plus I can't just decide to hop off the road anywhere I want to see something in a little town. The exits are few and far between. I Cmor takes the little country roads, we drive around like a colander of spighetti. At least we see some beautiful country side. We found a great old fifties style diner with fun booths and big hamburgers. Definately no weight loss this trip. More talk about working on the Chevys when we get home. Now someone wants a diner somewhere in the garage. We passed the site of the 2016 Open but it was too late to go see the course. We drove into Sanduskey Ohio and had lunch sitting on the edge of Lake Erie. Then to the Merry Go Round Museum. Incredibly beautiful animals. We saw the horses that were used for postage stamps. Also the deer Michelle Obama used for The White House Christmas decorations. Some had real Antlers from the 1800's because they lasted better than man made with the children. I saw a new horse in the process of being made. Then I rode on an old Carousel that was in the middle of the building. I chose an ostrich to ride on. The huge building used to be a post office. This town has chosen lighthouses to paint and put around town. We spent that night in Maumee Bay. It was a "remember when we were here before "trip. Again because everything is so flat, we laughed when we saw the sign for "Big Hill". We climbed to the top (127 steps )from the bottom to top. Only took a few minutes. We could look out over Lake Erie and see Cmor way down at the bottom. Did I mention we went to see the house from "Christmas Story and the famous leg lamp? Moving right along, we crossed another border. Or would that be a state line?
Next stop, Detroit. Wait a minute. My little monkey brain forgot something. We went to one of the biggest candy stores ever. I got tired, climbing around all the shelves. Candies some people remembered from their childhood and some I had never seen before. Okay, back to Detroit. When we got to Comerica Stadium, there were no tours. We walked all the way around the whole stadium and could look down inside. Not places to get good pictures. My goodness these Detroit people like their tigers. There were statues of tigers and baseballs and bats all over the place. There were great old buildings surrounding the park. My friend Jim would have loved them. Even an old Fox theater and A Fillmore theatre. We waled a ross the street to the Ford Lions football Stadium but t was closed too. I looked at the guard sadly with my big brown monkey eyes and she let us in. It was very strange being in there all alone. We wandered around and took pictures. It was creepy and quiet. Our next stop was American Jewelry and Loan. A giant Pawn shp from the TV series. My good friend Chuck wanted to know what it was like. Barbed wire on the lots around it. Lots of people lined up inside selling stuff or perhaps buying. Racks of fur coats and clothes and lots and lots of junk! Even lawn mowers. I went and talked to a man behind the jewelry cases. Wow, I needed sun glasses. So many sparkles. I felt sad to see all the things people have to sell.
I was cheered up later when we went to our next home. It wasThe Holly Recreation Area. A nice new friend, Susan at the check in booth let me pick out any camp site I wanted. Very few people anywhere and I felt like I was alone in camp. The view from my bedroom was amazing.
Again no internet so I had nothing to do, but enjoy my surroundings. No noise but birds. All of you that asked why no blog, now know the reason why I sometimes don't write. I have a legitimate excuse.
Yesterday, we went back again to The Ford museum. We enjoyed it so much last time and wanted to see it again. Won't repeat what I wrote about last time. I will save that for the kids blog since it is a different group this time. Don was very excited to see a roadster that won prizes. The body man used to work for Don at the body shop and the painter ,Art, is also a friend. Mickey actually made a model 57 for Don's collection at home. Don went to lunch with the Brizio group at Christmas. Again it is time to sat, Small World. While at the museum, I tried to find a 3/8 wrench for my friend Ed but they were too big. I did go into the second largest locomotive again. I was amazed again at the size of the fly wheels and motors Ford used in his plant. Okay, fans, I am off to new adventures trying to see bears today. Hugs from Jr.
