Boy is this fun. I am a happy monkey. First real day on the Mother Road and it is everything I expected. Saw the Gemini Giant. Went to the 66 visitor center and we really lucked out. It was Star War Day in Joliet. Unbelievable. I met lots of the characters . Then over to the prison where Joliet Jake, the Blues Brother was released. There was a hole in the fence and Donna was trmpted to explore but cooler minda prevaled. Down the road, heavily armed with books, maps and brochures. Zig and zag and try to imagine what it was like for the older cars. We have to see everything and every mile. Met a wonderful 91 year old getleman running the Texaco Station. He had questions about Cmor so I invited him in for a tour. My goodness he was excited. Had never been in any kind of RV. We found a Frank Lloyd Wright Bank but it was closed. We found an old advertising barn and I had to hike part way through a corn field to get a picture. Next a great old service station crammed with "stuff". Don kept saying I wish Rand could see this. I have no idea what half the stuff was although I have seen some of it in our garage. Signs on the road, "If huggin is your sport, turn in your car for a davenport. Burma Shave". We read about Bob Waldmire, and also saw DVD stories. Hippy and artist of Route 66. His VW bus was the model for Fillmore in the Cars movie. So much stuff in it, I don't know how he fit. Then I saw his school bus he lived in when not on the road. Even more stuff. Quite a character. Lots of little 57 Chevys for me to play in. Somebody was drooling over the Yellow 57 in the mural. there Re murals in lots of the towns we have passed through. We toured the Pontiac Oakland museum. Someone keeps talking about getting home to work on his cars. Too many things to even talk about. Love the old sections of road. Also liked the Octagonal library. We spent the night in Lincoln in the middle of a corn field. If I can get the kids blog caught up and can stop watching the Warriors, I will try to atch up with todays travels. Hugs from Jr.
