Maryhill

Hey everyone, Is it really hot at home. It was 90 something here. They are having record heat waves. I think I only wore my Parka once, at the ocean. We started out early today to tey to beat the heat. I qwent down to the Columbia river for a quick morning look and then we went up the hill to Stonehenge. Walked around pretending we were Druids. Then 4 miles down the road to Maryhill. Hard to imagine such a wonderful museum in the middle of nowhere. Millie, the mans name was Sam Hill. Remember when you couldn't think of it. I wish I had a wealthy man to build me a mansion and call it Juniorhill. I have lots of notes to look up things when we get home. Especially Queen Marie of Romania. What an incredible woman she was. She designed and built her own furniture, designed her own coronation crown, painted, carved, sewed, did need, ework, wrote books, poetry and Donna said she probably did scrapbooking too.
We went to the Dalles Dam and cascade locks which are no longer there. Bonnieville Dam submerged them. We went to the Oregon side of the Bonnieville Dam visitor center. Huge lock there. Biggest we have seen yet. There was a four part barge i  the locks and we got to watch it get lowered down and see the gates open. Donna was the most excited to see the road we had to drive on swivel completely around to get out of the way od the barge. Also an old guard pill box that was one of many around the Dam during the war. Those guards must have been short. There was someone in them 24 hours a day. I net they were miserable. Saw huge, original turbine, retired finally in 2000. More ffish hatchery, watching salmon jumping.
Then Russell, we finally got to climb up to the bridge at Multinomah falls. That earned us an ice cream at the bottom. We are now sweating off the calories in Fairview. Going for a walk to the showers and then into bed. Too hot, no jammies for this monkey tonight. Hugs from Jr.
