Hello again from Junior. Sorry I haven't written. As you will see in the next blogs pictures. I needed surgery on my knee. I am fine now. But I digress. I always wanted to say that. After spending Sunday night at the Grand Sierra Resort, we drove to target for things Don and Donna had forgotten to pack. Socks for Don,( at least he remembered his underwear) and sunscreenand other people stuff. Then back to California. Donna wanted to see Burney Falls again. Even after seeing Yosemite and Niagra Falls, she still thinks Burney are the most beautiful. Her favorite falls are Berry Creek in Big Basin near Santa Cruz.
Stopped at Susanville Airport so I could play on the helicopters. I have a question for Rudi. Why is the canopy ejection lever on the outside of the plane?. You would have to be a monkey to pull it.
Drove up 44 and stopped at the HatCreek overlook. We could see the fire damage from last year. Ove 800 lightening striks. Also read about the lava and flooding in 1915. For many miles we saw huge trees ton up by the roots. They were all heading in the same direction, scattered among still standing trees. Saw a ranger in the gas station and Donna got out to talk to him. In Feb of this year, there was a huge wind storm. Lost thousands of trees and one of their barracks. Also many homes were lost or damaged. The forest is trying to sell the trees while they are still usable, but govenment committees move slowly. He is afraid they will all be used for energy. (burrning).
Next stop was the Subway Cave. Self guided walk thru a Lava tube. First climb up stairs, then down into the tube. Once we were inside, it was pitch black. We brought a flashlight and lantern. Very rought floor. Maybe that is where I hurt my knee. Then climb more stairs up out of the tube. Very nic hike above ground back to Cmor.
On to Burrney Falls. Donna was able to do the whole Falls Loop. She said it it still as beautiful as she remembered it. When I saw the fence signs, they made me wonder if they were really necessary. Even being a very experienced monkey, I wouldn't climb over that fence with that huge straight down drop on the other side. Sometimes I just don't understand humans. I am positive they did not evole from any of my relatives. Drove through the town of Burney, got ice and wine and bananas for me and headed for home. Heavy rain for awhile and thunder and lightening. I almost didn't remember what rain was. Home for the evening was in Altura. Pictures next and probably will catch up tomorrow.
Hugs, from Junior and my people. Almost forgot, we stoppeed at the Pit River overlook near the PGE power plant. Don told me about a fishing trip where he used ropes to climb down into the Pit River
to fish. He said he and his fishing buddy carried canned peas, that they ate cold. Boy that sounded appetizing. I would have bought Bananas!
